Prayer Rooms
3 entries
Grand Mosque (Airside)
Hamad International's dedicated mosque is one of the most impressive in any airport worldwide. Beautiful geometric patterns, excellent acoustics, and a genuinely peaceful space.
Pro Tip
Open 24/7. Spacious wudu facilities. The call to prayer echoes through the terminal beautifully.
Quiet Rooms (Multiple)
Smaller prayer and meditation rooms distributed throughout the concourses. Gender-separated, with prayer mats and Qibla direction indicated.
Pro Tip
Perfect for quick prayers between flights. Less crowded than the main mosque.
Al Mourjan Lounge Prayer Room
Qatar Airways' flagship lounge has a dedicated prayer room with premium amenities. Incredibly well-maintained.
Pro Tip
Access with QR business class, Oneworld Emerald, or Priority Pass. The lounge food alone is worth it.
Halal Dining
4 entries
Al Mourjan Lounge Dining
World-class buffet and a la carte dining in Qatar Airways' business lounge. Arabic mezze, grills, international options. All halal, all exceptional.
Pro Tip
The lamb ouzi and Arabic coffee are standouts. Open 24/7.
Emporio Armani Caffe (Airside)
Upscale Italian cafe right in the terminal. Pasta, risotto, and espresso in a sleek setting. All halal-certified.
Pro Tip
Pricey but the quality matches. Good for a civilized layover meal.
Souq Waqif Restaurants (City)
The ancient marketplace has dozens of restaurants ranging from Yemeni to Iranian to Qatari. Shisha cafes line the alleys. A sensory overload in the best way.
Pro Tip
Damasca One for Syrian food, Shay Al Shoomos for traditional Qatari. Both excellent.
Machboos at Al Tawash (City)
Traditional Qatari machboos (spiced rice with meat or fish) at one of Doha's most authentic local spots. This is what Qataris actually eat at home.
Pro Tip
Go for the lamb machboos. Lunch is better than dinner—it's a lunch cuisine.
Cultural Tips

Dress Code in Qatar
More conservative than Dubai. Shoulders and knees should be covered in all public spaces. Swimwear at hotel pools/beaches only. Qataris appreciate modest dress.
Pro Tip
Linen pants and a breathable long-sleeve work perfectly in the heat. Respect goes a long way here.
Arabic Coffee Ceremony
If offered Arabic coffee (gahwa), accept with your right hand. It's served in small cups and refilled until you shake the cup side to side, signaling you're done.
Pro Tip
Dates are traditionally served alongside. The coffee is cardamom-heavy and unsweetened.
No Photography of People
Qatar takes privacy seriously. Never photograph Qatari nationals, especially women, without explicit permission. Government and military buildings are also off-limits.
Pro Tip
Souq Waqif and the skyline are fair game. People shots require asking first.
Summer Heat
June-September temperatures regularly exceed 45°C (113°F). Outdoor activities are essentially impossible. Plan everything around air-conditioned spaces or go between October-April.
Pro Tip
The airport and malls are kept at an aggressive 18°C. Bring a sweater for indoors, ironically.

Airport Itself (2-4 Hours)
Hamad International is a destination. The giant teddy bear sculpture, The Orchard garden, a swimming pool, gym, and spa. You can easily fill hours without leaving.
Pro Tip
The Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Centre has a pool and gym for ~$35. Great for overnight layovers.
4-Hour Layover: Souq Waqif
Doha's restored traditional market is 25 minutes from the airport. Wander the spice stalls, pet the falcons at the Falcon Souq, and eat your weight in Arabic sweets.
Pro Tip
Taxi is the fastest option. The souq is most alive after 4pm and on weekends (Fri-Sat).
6-Hour Layover: Museum + Souq
Combine the Museum of Islamic Art (free, world-class) with Souq Waqif. They're walking distance from each other along the Corniche.
Pro Tip
The museum's I.M. Pei building alone is worth the visit. The rooftop cafe has Doha skyline views.
Overnight: The Pearl & Katara
The Pearl-Qatar is a man-made island with Mediterranean-style architecture, beaches, and restaurants. Katara Cultural Village has galleries and a stunning amphitheater.
Pro Tip
Both are free to walk around. Great for an evening stroll after a day in transit.
